City officials have asked a California judge to ban members of the Mob Piru street gang from the city of Compton – and rap mogul Marion “Suge” Knight was named in the injunction.

Knight, co-founder of Death Row Records, is one of 200 people said to be affiliates of the Mob Piru gang.

If the injunction is carried out, it would prohibit Piru members from congregating, drinking alcohol, carrying guns, or staying out past 10 p.m. in Compton.

“This is crazy,” Knight told the Los Angeles Times. “I’m a 42-year-old businessman, not a gang member. I don’t even live in Compton anymore.”

Knight added that the injunction is simply a “publicity stunt.”

For years there have been rumors of alleged links between the Piru gang, Knight, and Death Row.

The injunction is part of a gang crackdown that Compton officials announced two years ago.

The original Pirus emerged in the 1970s as an offshoot of the Crips, and its later members would eventually form the Bloods.
