Sunderland boss Roy Keane felt his side were 'outstanding' during their 2-0 victory over Portsmouth.

The Black Cats thoroughly deserved their triumph against a below-par Pompey, with a brace from Kieran Richardson handing them success.

Keane was delighted with the performance, hailing every aspect of the display and reserving special praise for summer signing Richardson - who missed the first half of the season with a back injury.

"I thought they were outstanding. I thought we were the better team overall, and we maybe deserved another goal or two," he told Sky Sports.

"[I was pleased by] the players' attitude, their desire, the quality of our play and the two cracking goals by Kieran.

"He has been a big plus coming back over the last two or three weeks."

Transfer targets

When quizzed on his targets for the remainder of the January transfer window, Keane insisted that he had no plans to drastically alter his current squad.

"We'll see. No matter who we bring in, this is going to be the nucleus of players that are hopefully going to give us a good season," he concluded.
