The Pittsburgh Steelers will have to do without Willie Parker for the rest of the season after the running back broke his right leg against the St. Louis Rams.

Parker fractured his right fibula on the Steelers' second play from scrimmage during Thursday night's match.

In his absence, back-up Najeh Davenport carried the ball for 123 yards and a touchdown to help the Steelers to a 41-24 victory.

The result moves Pittsburgh to 10-5 for the season and within touching distance of a play-off berth, though they will have to finish the campaign off without one of their play-makers on offence.

"Our heart goes out to him because he's a competitor," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said on Parker's injury.

"As a football team we're not going to throw a 'pity party'. It's part of the game. People get hurt. We'll adapt and move forward."

Parker is currently the leading rusher in the NFL, managing 1,316 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 23 receptions for 164 yards.

Davenport, who is now expected to get the bulk of the carries, has managed 472 rushing yards, 184 receiving yards and six scores so far this year.
