DMX faces jail for violating NY plea deal

DMX has been charged with violating the terms of a plea deal after he crashed his car through an airport parking gate last year while under the influence of Valium.

The District Attorney for the New York borough of Queens said DMX was charged on Monday in connection with the original sentence imposed last December. He faces up to a year in jail.

DMX had originally pleaded guilty to crashing through a parking gate at John F. Kennedy International Airport after taking Valium.

In granting conditional release in December, the judge imposed a fine of $1,000 and ordered DMX to surrender the SUV, which he had customized with a police-style emergency flashing light and siren package, said the statement released late Monday.

District Attorney Richard Brown said that one week after the sentence for the airport incident, DMX was charged with driving at 104 mph and four months later, he was involved in an accident with two other vehicles.

"In each incident, it is alleged that his driver's license had either been suspended or revoked," the statement said.

Brown said DMX's actions demonstrated he had not learned his lesson from the previous sentence. "His subsequent actions not only exhibit contempt for the legal system but recklessly endangered the public as well," Brown said.

"The lesson the defendant should now learn is that everyone must be held accountable for their actions and that being a celebrity does not put one above the law."

If he is convicted, DMX faces up to one year in jail, the statement said. The case was adjourned to Oct. 11.
