MurderInc-Online.com: Its been awhile since we sat down with you, why don't you let everybody know what you been up to.
Young Life: Iv been putting in allot of work, I'v been doing 'This Is The Life Mixtape Volume 1'. Which is based around beats made from around now. And volume 2 is based around old beats, old tracks I re did them all remade them. And I got some songs from my album thats titled 'The Beginning Of Life'.
MIO: You were talking to us about the album last year where do you stand with 'The Beginning Of Life' right now ?
Life: I got like fifteen songs, fifteen – twenty songs all solid joints and I'm waiting for my time to come.
MIO: Mpire is working on a distribution deal right now, are you excited about that ?
Life: Definitely as I said I'm just waiting to go, I'm ready to go. I'v been ready to go for years now.
MIO: Going back to the mixtape you said Volume 1, is kind of beats from now, who have you bee working with on that ?
Life: By that I mean thats all me you'll main just hear me, but its beats you'd hear now, you'd hear on the radio and shit, hot beats you hear on the radio. I'm doing remixes, freestyles, 24 bars, 32 etc. When I do freestyles I just play with it, however I'm feeling.
MIO: So that's ready to drop right now on MurderInc-Online.com ?
Life: Yea I'm ready to drop that, its ready to go, I'm going to hit y'all with that get ready.
MIO: When you were recording the mixtape where you freestyling or writing ?
Life: I was doing a little bit of both, I played around with that too, like when sometimes when I make a song like I made a song with The Roc Boys just two weeks ago and I spit that straight I did it in my head, I didn't write it. I'm having fun right now I'v been writing for mad years four or five years so I'm just having some fun.
MIO: Harry-O and Merc Montana have basically told us it's no more Guap Boyz its just Mpire now, would you have liked to see Guap Boyz go down or are you happier now its just Mpire ?
Life: I mean you know all the riff raff with Guap Boyz, everybody is a Guap Boy but Mpire is great for us, I think it fits us well everything is a go.
MIO: You said you've been doing allot of freestyling and writing, which do you prefer, do you like crafting songs or going in on it ?
Life: Crafting songs is kind of more crazy for me because you know when I craft a song I do it different, when crafting songs I think of how I really want to go at it and with songs I'll start and then I'll elevate it with every verse, I'll go from the first, with the second I'll get a little more vocal and with the third I'll get crazy with the topic and really go in on the topic. With freestyling I just go all over the place, I might talk about this and 8 bars here and another 12 bars of something over there. But I would prefer writing the songs.
MIO: What features can we expect on the mixtape, in terms of Guap Boyz etc ?
Life: Rule will be on a couple of joints, I got a couple of things on there, there's allot of nice stuff on there. I know y'all aint heard allot from me but I got allot of shit so it's coming real soon.
MIO: You mentioned some old beats that you redid do you want to talk a bit about that ?
Life: Yea I got a old Rule joint, a Raekwon joint all old hot joints and I remade them. I got a Big Daddy Kane old joint, Rakim joint all hot old joints I got. I'm trying to take it back its before my time but I'm still taking y'all back.
MIO: Speaking of working with Ja Rule, the first time we hard you was on Ja Rule's 'Emerica' from 'The Last Temptation', tell us about how that went down.
Life: I was a young, young n*gga back then, it was crazy back then, thats when I wasn't going hard, I was straight out of high school, running everywhere, I was around 17 or 18 then.
MIO: You were Ja's hype man from around that time, how was that for you ?
Life: I learned allot from Rule, Rule took me like I said straight from out of high school, he was like 'your with me' I was with Rule everywhere, he made sure of that, he made sure he brought me everywhere. He was like 'I want you to learn, see how shit is, see how shit really is for everything'.
MIO: How big a deal was it for you, around that time Rule was at the top of his carer and he told you to jump on that joint how did it feel ?
Life: Shit was crazy, we was in Miami too and he was like 'you know you got to jump on this', we were in the Circle House recording, and we were going back and forth from the clubs back to the studio, we doing that type of shit it was crazy. He told me to jump on the joint and I hesitated but then I was like I'm on now, I'm on now.
MIO: When you were recording your verse did you know that it was for a song that was going to make the album ?
Life: I didn't know, I was just going in on it, I was like I'm just going in I'm going to do my best I'm going to do me, what I know what to do, I like flowing, I like fucking with the flow and shit. I always like that type so I was like I'm to go in there and do me. I was a young n*gga, I was still learning straight out of high school.
MIO: It's been almost seven or eight years now since then, do you feel your ready to push yourself ?
Life: Thats what I'm saying, right now I'm having fun, it's easier for me now as far as creating music, creating music is easy for me, like I said I got allot of shit that yall aint heard. Before when I was coming up then, it was more of a challenge because you know you new, you learning, you don't really know everything so you trying to pick up. Now I know everything I need to know I been everywhere, saw it from different angels so its kind of easier for me, so when I do get my chance to shine and do my thing I'll do my thing.
MIO: Since we last heard from you can we expect changes in your style ?
Life: I got those too, I got different types of things, that's what I'm saying I'm playing with it a little bit, I'm really trying to get the people to like me for certain things I'm trying to do, so I'm trying to give you a little this a little that see what people like, see what people don't like. People ain't going to like everything from you I learnt that already. Somebody might like that joint and others might be like that joint's not that hot so you know... I know exactly how I'm going to come and how I want the world to see me.
MIO: How do you want people to see you ?
Life: I want people to see Life as talented as a n*gga thats versatile, that he isn't just right here he's going places, that he foresees other shit that he isnt just going to talk about the block, that about the street and shit, that I do do on a daily basis but I got other shit, I got records I made two years ago that's talking about different shit...
MIO: How are things with O1 your brother ?
Life: Everything's good with O he's good right now, he still on the book he never stopped that.
MIO: Is he still making music ?
Life: He still do some things, we did two joints not too long ago, he aint doing it like I'm doing it but he still in there sometimes, still in that bubble.
MIO: Do you feel you have what it takes to be a cross over artist, cross over into the pop market ?
Life: Let me tell you, when I first made my first album, I made an album before that never came out, I put together an album when I made those records I was influenced allot by Rule. I like those type of crossover records and I make those, thats why I said when y'all hear some records I'll have those. People that hear those type of records be telling me they like them over the harder type of record I made. I got records that would get play over on Z100 rather then Hot 97.
MIO: Do you think that versatility has come from how you got to tour with Ja ?
Life: Yea I'v seen it at different levels it's crazy and I appreciate different music then other people might as I'v experienced it at first hand.
MIO: So it's definitely helped influence and matured your music ?
Life: Oh for sure, for sure, like spots I was at people didn't have nothing and people be frontin' over shit over here and they don't understand people don't got nothing over in allot of places it's crazy.
MIO: When you were touring with Rule, did you have a favorite place you went to, a particular memory you have ?
Life: I got so many, but Rule took me to Paris for my birthday, we was alreay in Germany we were wildin' and he took me to Paris on a little shopping spree and told me to buy whatever. All them hot top products n*ggas be wearing I had them in '02. He did allot of things for me, I can never, ever front on Rule never. He took me everywhere Switzerland, Japan, Australia I went everywhere with him.
MIO: Caddy and Lloyd have recently come out with their feelings about Irv Gotti and the state of Murder Inc, what's your opinion on what they had to say and your experience's ?
Life: I haven't seen the interview, but everybody has a right to feel how they feel, I come from a different situation I'm a new artist so it's kind of different for me, as I said everybody is entitled to their opinion and everybody has their own side of the story. Caddy is an artist that came out he tried to do him and he probably had his differences, so you know thats how it collides.
MIO: Your situation would be a little different then Caddy's as your signed directly to Mpire and never been under Irv Gotti on Murder Inc...
Life: Never been under Gotti no, but I tell you this Gotti did tell me he was going to sign me but you take that for what it is, you got to go hard or go home....
MIO: What's the future of the Young Life ?
Life: The future of Young Life is you going to hear allot of problems, allot of new music. We going to crush it '09, '10, '11, 2012 holla at us Mpire.
MIO: What separates a Merc Montana to a Young Life to a Harry-o to Ja Rule what sets you apart do you think ?
Life: We all hood man, our styles, everybody's different but everybody's a real n*gga, thats the thing about us though we all real n*ggas.
MIO: Thats about it, to rap things up what do you have to say to all the fans out there on www.MurderInc-Online.Com ?
Life: We coming this year, this year its coming y'all better be all eye's we coming its Mpire Tha Gang.
