Ja Rule arrives in Ghana for music awards

Heavyweight Rap Artiste Ja Rule was flexing hot on Joy FM Friday morning minutes after touching down in Accra ahead of his billed performances Friday night and Sunday beach act as part of the MTN/Ghana Music Awards celebration.

The multi-Grammy Awards nominee, minutes after disembarking the Delta Airline that had flown him from the United States, was all ‘slanging’ as he teased his fans to come see him perform, because he is one of the best performers around.

The man who took the music world by storm especially in 2002 with several visible awards and nominations, was obviously infatuated by the welcoming atmosphere in Accra and as he spoke via phone with Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, he was all too ready to ‘hit town.’

“I’m good man, we’re laaving Ghana, we having a good time, I just touched down…yea I just gat here…I’m still at the Airport as soon as I make it out of here we gonna check town.” “Oh man, you got to see me perform, I’m one of the best rap performers there is and if you haven’t seen my show, you haven’t seen anything yet,” he said and laughed off the jig.

The multi-talented musician is performing alongside some of Ghana’s best, plus others in the sub-region, including the loveable stage performers P-Square.

Thunderkatz on Cover of Loafing's Georgia Music Directory 2008

Thunderkatz shot the cover for the Georgia Music Directory a few weeks back at the Atlanta Headquarters for Creative Loafing.  The guide just arrived earlier today as the insert in the newest edition of Creative Loafing.  We are beaming with emotion at how amazing the cover turned out.  It's a really big deal for the band.  We have a buzz in ATL, but not many Atliens actually know what we look like.
We would like to give a big shout out to Rodney Carmichael (Music Editor) for making this shoot possible, and hella fun.  Also thanks to Creative Loafing for putting us out there, in one of the top  music cities in the universe.  Below is the article found on the inside cover of the music directory.

CONSIDER IT GEORGIA MUSIC DIRECTORY 2.0

By Rodney Carmichael

It's been exactly one year since Irv Gotti announced to the crowd at Masquerade that the atlanta-based Thunderkatz were the newest signees to his label, the INC.  For some groups that would feel like an eternity, especially considering their debut doesn't even have a scheduled release date yet.
But on a recent night at Patchwerk Studios, the members of the hip-pop band-080, June, Mel, Just Jon, Ginger and Benji-were upbeat, even if they were a little beat up after a string of late-night recording sessions.  As they prepared to lay down tracks for their new single, "Anything," Gotti sat in the studio, eyes glued to his laptop, while he checked out the latest viral images of his signees.
"I think it's overwhelmingly dope," he said, "that, virally, they've already got a buzz."
Creative Loafing agrees, which is why we decided to highlight the band on the cover of the 2008 Georgia Music Directory.  Rather than languish on a major label while waiting for something to happen, Thunderkatz exemplify how today's artists are taking their careers into their own hands via the Internet.  And frankly, the Georgia Music Directory is here to help.  For that, Thunderkatz definitely embodies the mission behind this year's directory.

GMA 2008-Charterhouse Lies about Ja Rule Cause

Ms. Abena Turkson, Public Relations Officer of Charterhouse, Event Organisers, Ghana Music Awards (GMA) few weeks ago told Radio Gold’s Solid Gold Countdown that Ja Rule’s coming is based on a social cause but Ghanaians are yet to be told exactly what the so-called cause is all about.

With only two days to the main event, it’s clear there is no social cause and Ja Rule will be coming chiefly on a commercial trip.

Not only is Ja Rule going to take our attention from the local artists, he is as well going to be paid more than all the Ghanaian musicians put together. No one has qualms with Ja Rule’s coming, after all he is one of us, thanks to slavery, but the issue remains; can’t Ja Rule’s show stand on its own?

Why should an international artist come to Ghana only to fly on the wings of Ghana Music Awards? Isn’t he popular enough to fill the National Theartre? It makes Charterhouse look like they are trying too hard to sell a has-been.

Ghanaian musicians, most of whom are managed by not-so-pro managers will be the big losers in this as Ja Rule takes the lion’s share of the attention that comes with the event. The local artists as usual are gonna play second fiddle to these so-called international stars who more often than not only come into this country, do business tax-free and go back richer.

Like it or not, Ghana Music Awards has come to stay and this weekend will be a spectacular one as far as Ghanaian music is concerned as showbiz stars get ready for red carpet treatment. Except we are to know what Ja Rule is really going to add to this year’s Ghana Music Awards? A social cause may be…may be not.

Lloyd's Latest Shows 'How We Do It' with Guest Star Ludacris

Rhythmic/Crossover and Urban Radio Piling On; Lloyd's Second The
Inc. Records/Universal Motown Album 'LESSONS IN LOVE' In-Stores July
15, 2008
NEW YORK--(Business Wire)--
One of music's golden young voices just got a heavy new shine, as
The Inc./Universal Motown hip-hop singer/songwriter LLOYD's new
single, "How We Do It" featuring special guest LUDACRIS, conquers two
radio formats in its first week of release.

This unconventional but powerfully rhythmic, fathoms-deep track is
by far the No. 1 most-added record nationally at Rhythm Crossover, and
among the most-added at Urban-formatted radio. "How We Do It",
co-written by Lloyd with Wood Works, and produced by Inglewood,
California upstart team Baby Boy and Superkidd, fires up high
anticipation - to say the least - around his third album, LESSONS IN
LOVE, scheduled for release on July 15, 2008.

Lloyd is mid-stream in a solid career growth mode: his 2007 album,
Street Love, which debuted at No. 2 on both the national Billboard Top
200 album chart and the R&B/Hip-Hop album chart, was certified gold
within eight weeks of its release, and spun off two major smashes:
"You" featuring Lil Wayne, an R&B/Hip-Hop No.1 one and Top 10 pop hit;
and "Get It Shawty," a No. 4 R&B/Hip-Hop track and Top 20 Hot 100
entry.

Lloyd's upcoming LESSONS IN LOVE is shaping up as a true take-off
moment, confirming the breadth of Lloyd's talent and striking the same
diverse and balanced mix of club joints and mellow balladry as the
gold-plus Street Love, with a top-tier list of collaborators. The
seductive "Lose Control" features superstar Nelly; the red-hot roster
of production hands on the project include Tricky and The-Dream (Mary
J. Blige, J. Holiday, Rihanna); Polow Da Don (Usher, Nelly, Fergie);
J-Lack ("Get it Shawty"); Jasper and Big Reese (Mario, Mariah Carey)
and Eric Hudson (Kanye West).

New Orleans-born and Atlanta-raised, Lloyd made his chart debut in
2004 with the hit collaboration "South Side," with multi-platinum
label mate Ashanti. On the small screen, he was recently featured in
the recent VH-1 reality show, Gotti's Way.

Lloyd and Luda Show Us How To Do It In The A

If you were confused on how it actually goes down in Atlanta, Lloyd and Ludacris can easily remind you. This past weekend, Lloyd shot the video for his first single, “How We Do It (Around My Way)” from his forthcoming CD, Lesson In Love. BET.com not only caught up with the The Inc. representative, but also the director, Tony P, about the direction of the video and a valuable lesson from Ludacris on how it really goes down in the “A."

Even though Tony Petrossian, who’s an Iranian video director, has only had his hand one other hip hop video throughout his career (S.A.N.T.A.N.A. by The Diplomats, 2004) his vision and intuition for Lloyd’s “How We Do It” indicated otherwise. “Here’s the concept; A party breaks out in Atlanta and Lloyd’s heading it off, but all around the county; Miami, Chicago, NY, people start to wonder what’s going on and begin leaving those cities to come to Atlanta. They even start walking through split screens to get to the party in Atlanta and that’s when they find out how we do it in the A,” Tony told BET.com of the project.

While Lloyd is no stranger to performing in front of the camera, this was his first time using a green screen (a technique for mixing two images together, in which a color from one image is removed (or made transparent), revealing another image behind it) and working with the rock director. “We’re using the soundstage, which is a really cool place to be and it’s our first time using this set up” Lloyd said. However, Tony’s shortage of hip hop videos and his Lloyd's lack of experience on a green screen set didn’t slow down the confidence of the young singer. “The director, Tony P, is an incredible guy and he usually does Rock videos so we’re going to switch it up and do a little something different this time around.”

Though Lloyd and Luda reside in the same state, the two never had the opportunity to collaborate with one another, until now. “The name of the song is “How We Do It in the A”, so there were but only so many rappers he could get on the song in the first place, so with that being said I went and got down on it” said Ludacris. And while creating noteworthy material comes easy for the mouth of the south, Luda already felt the presence of the track when he first heard it. “When I heard the record it sounded like it could be a big hit in my opinion you know crossover but still has that urban feel which lets everyone know how we do it in the “A." I haven’t done a song with Lloyd before and I feel like he’s doing his thing as an artist in which he continues to inspire, grow and entertain individuals and I’m happy to be apart of it,” Luda told BET.com.

Lloyd’s new album, Lesson in Love, is slated to hit stores July 15. Check out pictures from the Video shoot on our forum.
