Cash Money Click
Bursting on the scene with the release of “Can I Get A …,” Ja Rule established himself as a rap artist to be reckoned with. Now a superstar, he re-teams with CMC, his rhyme partners for a new album, Est. Since ‘93, to be released on Murder Inc./TVT Records. The group, Ja Rule, 01, and Chris Black aka Jody Mack originally known as Cash Money Click recently changed their name to Cash Murda Click, the abbreviated version CMC, to show their growth within the Murder Inc. umbrella. “We’ve grown as a group, as individuals, and as artist so it was natural for us to change our name,” says Ja Rule.
When asked how it feels to record within the group again, Ja Rule explains, “Really I never left home, if you listen to all my albums, CMC is represented. You’ll either hear o1 or Chris Black on every album. The only difference with this album and my previous solo albums, is that it’s not all my ideas. I’m part of CMC, so we each brought something different to each song.” Chris Black aka Jody Mack adds, “We’ve stepped up our skill level tremendously. We used to rap just to have something to do, but hip-hop has grown so much since ’93 and we’ve had a chance to see Ja’s success, so we’re ready.” 01 adds, “It’s a beautiful thing that we’re all finally doing what we set out to do. It’s different for me now, because I have a lot more to say to the world.”
TVT Records, Billboard’s 2002 R&B/Hip-Hop Independent Label of the Year, will release the album through their joint venture deal with Murder Inc. The majority of the album was produced by Murder Inc.’s CEO Irv Gotti and Murder Inc.'s in-house producers, 7 Aurileus and Chink Santana. “It was only natural for Irv & Ja Rule to come back home to TVT, we all started together,” says Bryan Leach, VP of A&R at TVT.
CMC joins a rapidly growing hip-hop family at TVT Records, which includes Snoop’s Doggystyle Records (Snoop Dogg & Tha Eastsidaz and Tha Angels formerly Doggy’s Angels), BME Entertainment (Lil Jon & The EastSide Boyz and Chyna Whyte), and a distribution deal with Memphis based record label, Rap Hustlaz (Kingpin Skinny Pimp).
Featured guest on Est. Since ‘93 include Ashanti, Tah Murder & the Murder Inc Crew. The album is scheduled for a November 5th release.
